YOGA INSTRUCTOR
POSITION SUMMARY

Hearts Alive Yoga (HAY) was founded in April 2022 and has since offered a Tuesday evening Gentle Hatha Yoga class inside of Quinan Street Project in downtown Pinole (656 Quinan Street, Pinole, CA). In addition to yoga, HAY has coordinated community hikes and started hosting retreats in January 2023 along with life coaching (offered by its founder, Suzanna Mannion).

The Tuesday evening class can be described as an excellent way to come down from a long day and reconnect with yourself, move your body and find stillness in your mind. Students return for the welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere, the balanced yoga asana practice, and to be in community with other kind humans while connecting with themselves. The charismatic shared-space where classes are held (Quinan Street Project) amplifies the “good vibes” of this growing community.

HAY is ready to expand its offerings, and is calling in a second yoga instructor!

Position Summary
We are looking for a certified yoga instructor skilled in vinyasa and hatha yoga who is available to teach one class midweek (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) between 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Additionally, this teacher is open to teaching two Saturday morning (9 a.m. - 10 a.m.) Hatha flow or vinyasa classes per month. This second instructor will share HAY’s core values of kindness, compassion, open-mindedness and connection, as well as the values of Quinan Street Project; a commitment to equity for all races, genders and the queer/LGBTQ+ community, and to continuing to work as an anti-racist organization.

Our "ideal" yoga teacher is able to lead a hatha and vinyasa class, and is established as a yoga teacher in the area. The new instructor must be passionate about teaching yoga asana and able to lead an all-levels class with modifications and pose variations to accommodate most practitioners. Being reliable, punctual and having teaching experience is essential, but as importantly, we are looking for someone with heart; someone who is always welcoming and kind, and “meets students where they are;" in agreement that the student knows their body and needs better than anybody else. We are looking for someone who knows how to create a loving and supportive space while offering practitioners a solid, balanced yoga practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open the studio space and ensure it’s readied 15-30 minutes in advance to the start of class.

  • Lead a balanced yoga practice that's inclusive and safe for all participants.

  • Offer instruction on various pranayama exercises and yoga poses while utilizing clear verbal cues and demonstrations.

  • Check-in pre-enrolled students on the Wix booking app before class starts and/or before students depart. All students need to and will sign a safety waiver when they book online.

  • Offer modifications or variations based on student needs.

  • Secure the studio space at the end of class.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Professional, communicative, punctual and dependable

  • Kind, reliable, welcoming and engaging disposition

  • Yoga training certification, teaching experience and references.

  • Completion of a 200-hour yoga training course.

  • Able to teach a 60-75 minute hatha or vinyasa class Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening between the hours of 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and teach two Saturday morning (Hatha flow or vinyasa) classes per month 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.

Compensation:

$40 per class. Payment is made twice-monthly.
